StageStruck Online Community Newsletter 2- August/September 2001
The StageStruck Professional Development Community that you have joined has been designed to support classroom teachers in their use the the award winning performing and creative arts CD-ROM StageStruck. We have good reason to believe that teachers learn best from other teachers, so this site has been designed for you to steer its direction by the contributions, suggestions, requests and ideas that you propose.
So what's happening in these early weeks with the StageStruck Online Site?
1. The tutorial area is ready for you to use
2. Our first projects are now available
3. Contributions to many site areas are being eagerly sought from experienced StageStruck users
5. The research survey is in place
You may well think it all looks a bit empty at the moment, and it is. What will fill it over time are the contributions that you as members of the community make. We are targeting Units of Work and Quick Starter Ideas and Events at this stage. Those of you who are experienced users, or are working with experienced StageStruck users, are encouraged to contribute materials to the site as soon as soon as possible.

The tutorial area has been established and is available for teachers to either use online or to download and use. The components will allow you to step through the stage of development with each of the tools in St6agestruck (sound production, costume design, script writing, set design, choreography and performance). We recommend that if you are a new user of StageStruck that you start with a learning task using just one tool. Work through the tutorial and then try the task used in the tutorial (and the resources) with your students. You can then give us some feedback on how it all worked for you. http://www.stagestruck.intraceptives.com.au/teachers/tutorials/index.html
You are invited to design and share items for the first projects for 2001.
Costume Design (recommended years 2-7)
You are invited to design costumes for a well-known event (factual or mythical). This might be an event that you are studying in class, have been reading about or just have some special interest in. Student pairs will be required to design a male and female costume using the StageStruck Costume Design tool and to write a short paragraph to identify the event these costumes might be worn at. Submissions will be a StageStruck costume file and email or MS Word description. Find out all the details at http://www.stagestruck.intraceptives.com.au/projects/thismonth/serial.html#costume
Script writing (recommended years 5-10)
We give you the start, mid and final lines of dialogue and you write the scene. You can experiment with the intent on the lines that we give you to brainstorm the storyline. Then you write the dialogue to complete the scene. You don't have to use StageStruck lines to complete your writing but they may help with ideas along the way. Your final script will be sent to us as a combination of MS Word file, StageStruck file or audiotape. We will then publish these on the web for everyone to explore, share, compare and contrast. You can see just how creative writers can be. Find out all the details at http://www.stagestruck.intraceptives.com.au/projects/thismonth/serial.html#script
Please note that our planned Serial Story will come online a later in this term. Our writers are busy scripting their starter ideas as we speak.
Our community will grow strong only with the much-valued contributions of the members. As one myself I know that teachers are not very good self-promoters, but this community is just for you and your peers. Those of you that have used StageStruck for some time will have lots to share with newbies. Those of you who are new to using StageStruck will have lots of questions and need for support. This is the place that you should find all of that.
If you are a new user of StageStruck you can start by:
Visiting the Tutorials
Exploring the Curriculum Links
Asking those burning questions in the Discussion Space
If you are an experienced user of StageStruck you can start contributing by:
Adding Quick Starter Ideas to get new teachers (and their students) into an easy to master and fun way to use StageStruck
Adding a Unit of Work
Answering questions posed by new users in the Discussion Space (you will need to login with your username and password)
4. Teacher registrations - See who's available to team up with for projects, sharing, collaborating and swapping StageStruck productions.

In order to make sure this web site community is targeted to your needs we have adapted a survey tool to use on-line. This survey will give us information in relation to your concerns about using tools like StageStruck in the performing and creative arts areas. In turn the information will guide the revisions of the web site and its activities. We greatly appreciate your assistance in completing this survey. While names are attached to the survey, they are only available to myself and will not be used to identify neither schools nor teachers in any research work or publications.
